Hope. Dignity. Community.

The Spirit of Service at St. Vinny’s

Helping Empower Local People

“Make it a practice to judge persons and things in the most favorable
light at all times and under all circumstances.” – St. Vincent de Paul

Serving with Dignity and Love
At St. Vincent de Paul North Idaho, staff and volunteers serve not to save but to see. We see Christ in every person and affirm the God-given dignity that poverty, illness, or homelessness can never erase. Service is not about charity from the top down; it is about community from the inside out. We follow the model of Jesus, who met people where they were with humility, compassion, and respect.

Why We Serve

  • Because every person is created in the image of God and deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and love
  • Because we are called to encounter, not to fix. We listen, learn, and walk alongside our neighbors in need.
  • Because service transforms the one who serves as much as the one being served.

How We Serve

  • By offering presence before provision. We learn names, stories, and hopes.
  • By providing help that empowers, not handouts that diminish.
  • By creating spaces where neighbors feel seen, safe, and valued.
  • By recognizing Christ in all people, especially those who are struggling.
  • By understanding that not all service happens face to face. Some serve through preparing meals, maintaining facilities, organizing donations, fundraising, or building systems of care that make help possible. Every act of service, seen or unseen, is part of God’s work of love.

A Mission Built by Faith & Community

For 80 years, this region has carried forward a mission built by faith and strengthened by community: feeding families, housing individuals, offering warmth during the coldest nights, and opening doors for people who feel forgotten.

The next 80 years will be shaped by partners who believe in investing in the wellbeing of their neighbors. You make it possible for children to sleep safely, for seniors to stay warm, for families to access support, and for individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity. Thank you!

Seasonal Warming Center

When temperatures drop below 33 degrees, the Warming Center opens to ensure no one is left outside in dangerous conditions.

The Warming Center operates nightly from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, typically November through March.

Transportation is provided from Father Bill’s Kitchen after dinner, with return to our campus at 6:00 AM.

Guests receive a warm place to sleep, a meal, and essential items such as a sleeping bag, socks, and hygiene supplies.

This is a low-barrier, life-saving space focused on safety, dignity, and care during the coldest nights of the year.

If you are in need of help, please call Shelter Services at 208-664-3095 ext. 321or email annie@stvincentdepaulcda.org

The Men's and Women’s Shelters

Our shelters provide a safe, clean place to rest and begin moving forward.

Each shelter serves up to twelve guests per night. Individuals can check in at the HELP Center each morning at 8:00 AM to inquire about availability.

Guests may stay for up to 90 days. During that time, they work alongside our team to build a plan for what comes next, including housing, income, and long-term stability.

This is a place to regroup, find support, and take meaningful steps forward.
